Gambling Education Hub

The Gambling Education Hub (previously referred to as the Youth Problem Gambling Initiative) is a preventative and educational programme addressing youth gambling and problem gambling.

In August 2018 Fast Forward was awarded s £¾ million funding by GambleAware to further develop our existing Gambling Education programme, which has been promoting youth gambling education and prevention across Scotland since 2016. You can read the press release here.

The mission of the Hub is to make it possible for every young person in Scotland to have access to gambling education and prevention opportunities. The project uses a harm reduction approach and provides tailored support to practitioners working with young people and families in the following 5 sectors:

  • informal education sector
  • youth employability sector
  • formal education/secondary schools sector
  • further and higher education sector
  • parents and carers sector.

This programme adopts a training the trainers’ approach, while developing resources that professionals can use in a range of education and health settings. We offer free CPD sessions, consultancy and resources. Soon we will also launch the Small Action Fund to support youth groups across Scotland in trasforming their ideas into action and create their own local gambling education project – watch this space for more information coming up soon!

In November 2017 we published our Gambling Education Toolkit, which supports practitioners to better understand what problem gambling is, its consequences and its relationship with other risk-taking behaviours; it helps them to develop their skills on this topic and increase their confidence in providing support around this issue. The Toolkit is available online for free on this website check it out!
