In Memory of Alan Small
With fond memories and with gratitude for his long and dedicated service, Fast Forward remembers Alan Small, former Chairman of our board, who has died.
Alan was a highly respected figure in Scottish civic life, in education and in youth work for over forty years. His work as an HMI was influential in producing the 1980’s report on Youth Work inScotland which, in turn, laid the foundation for youth work for the next 20 years.
Alan was an enthusiastic volunteer and chaired the Fast Forward board for over ten years. He was passionate about the difference that creative youth work could make to the lives of young people. He also helped several voluntary groups on an ongoing basis.
“Alan Small brought together intellectual rigour, a passion for education, humour and a rare ability to make everyone feel valued “, said Fast Forward Chief Executive, Alastair MacKinnon. “ He led Fast Forward through an astonishing period of vibrant development and creativity. All of us whose lives were touched by him will remember him as an astonishing influence for good.”
Fast Forward Board and staff extend their sincere sympathy to his wife Mary and all the family.
